Who we are

Roads to ROAM is an independent motorcycle route library. For the purposes of UK data protection law we are the data controller for the personal data described below. You can reach us at hello@example.com.

What we collect

Only what the account features actually need:

  • Your email address — this is what you log in with, and it's the only thing required to hold an account.
  • An optional display name — only if you choose to add one. You can leave it blank and use the site fully.
  • Your email preference — whether you want occasional emails, and the date you last changed that choice, kept as a record of your consent.
  • Routes you save and log — the routes you've bookmarked and the rides you've recorded, including any notes you add.
  • Basic technical data — the kind of information any web host records to keep a site secure and working, such as your IP address and browser type when you make a request.

You can browse the entire route library and download GPX files without giving us anything at all.

Why we're allowed to use it

To provide your account — signing you in, saving routes, keeping your riding history — we process your data because it's necessary to perform our agreement with you.

To send you occasional emails about new routes we rely on your consent, which you give by ticking the box. It's separate from creating an account and is never assumed: the box is unticked by default and you can switch it off whenever you like.

To keep the site secure, prevent abuse and understand in aggregate which pages are useful, we rely on our legitimate interests. Any usage statistics that need consent are covered by the analytics category in our cookie banner, and don't run without it.

Passwords

Passwords are never stored in plain text. Sign-in is handled by our platform provider, Base44, which stores credentials in a securely hashed form. We never see your password and can't recover it — if you forget it, the reset link lets you set a new one.

Cookies

We use strictly necessary cookies to keep you signed in, and nothing non-essential until you agree to it. Full detail, including how to change your mind, is in our Cookie Policy. You can open the at any time.

Who we share it with

We don't sell your data or share it for advertising. The site runs on the Base44 platform, which hosts our database, handles sign-in and sends our emails on our behalf as a processor. Your account data is kept private to you: saved routes and riding history are readable only by you and by the site owner for support and administration.

How long we keep it

We keep your account and the routes you've saved for as long as your account exists. If you ask us to delete your account, we remove your personal data and the routes you've saved and logged, and we'll confirm when it's done. Our platform provider may hold routine backups for a short period afterwards.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to have inaccurate data corrected, to have your data erased, to restrict or object to how we use it, to receive it in a portable format, and to withdraw consent at any time — including unsubscribing from emails.

To exercise any of these, email hello@example.com. We'll respond within one month. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

Security

Data is sent over encrypted connections and held in access-controlled storage. Records like saved routes and riding history are restricted so that one account can never read or change another's. No system is perfect, but we collect as little as possible so that there is as little as possible to lose.

Changes to this policy

If what we collect or why changes, we'll update this page and, where the change is significant, tell account holders by email. The date at the top always shows when it was last revised.
