South Derby Circuit

The South Derby Circuit is a compact loop built around some of the best riding roads South Derbyshire has to offer. It’s all about flowing bends, quiet country roads and enjoyable sections of twisties, making it ideal when you want a proper ride without committing to an entire day in the saddle. Starting and finishing at The Crewe & Harpur near Swarkestone, the route heads through the South Derbyshire countryside, taking in areas around Melbourne, Breedon-on-the-Hill, Staunton Harold, Ticknall, Hartshorne, Repton and Milton before looping back towards Swarkestone. A highlight of the ride is the run around Staunton Harold Reservoir, which also makes a great place to stop, grab something to eat or drink and take a break before carrying on. From there, the route continues through a mixture of sweeping countryside and more technical, twisty sections before eventually working its way back towards the start. At roughly 26 miles, it’s deliberately shorter than routes like the Rutland TT. That makes it perfect for an evening ride, a weekend blast, or simply when you’ve got a couple of hours spare and want to get out on the bike.
